Las Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza is still getting used to an NFL rep. The Hoosiers Heisman has yet to take any real ones under game pressure, but he's already making adjustments.
Mendoza has taken the vast majority of shotgun snaps in three college seasons between Indiana and Cal. However, during Raiders' rookie minicamp over the weekend, Mendoza said he was thrown under center for most of his action. This was a stark change from what he ran a majority of last season.
Klint Kubiak's offense will feature a fair amount of play action and puts Mendoza right under center. He's only done that five times during his college career. To say he got a good taste of what's yet to come is spot on.
"Instead of being back there in shotgun, we have to get back to make sure you best serve your offensive linemen, still be on time, still decipher the defense," Mendoza told reporters over the weekend. "And with that, actually having an emphasis on those first two steps, on securing the snap and getting out of there, and [be powerful with having quick feet."

Mendoza will be hitting the ground running at a fast pace. The transition seems like a ton of new information coming all at once, but he's taking everything in stride. The Raiders got the most cerebral QBs not only in this draft, but likely for many years. He's ready for this step in his career.
"I'm just trying to take it all in to get better every single day, pay attention to detail, and with (my) teammates," Mendoza said. "It's so great. Rookie camp, all coming together as an offense, defense, special teams as a team together to have core coherent practices so they can all get better at football."
