Fantasy owners may want to think twice before drafting CJ Abrams

When looking at the group of shortstops in the MLB right now, it is full of incredible talent. From Bobby Witt Jr. to Colson Montgomery, MLB fans are in great hands.

Not long ago, many big-league clubs were not getting much offense from their infielder captains, but that has changed in recent years. What was a defense-first position is now defense plus offense.

So, for fantasy owners getting ready to make their picks, there are tons of elite players to choose from. The question is, who to target?

Fantasy owners may want to think twice before drafting CJ Abrams

Bobby Witt Jr. should be the top shortstop once again this season and will be someone who is taken in the first round. Elly De La Cruz is also another shortstop who could have a great year and will be taken early.

Some owners may circle Geraldo Perdomo for what he did last year, or CJ Abrams, but Abrams may not be the best choice. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter tags him as one of the most overvalued at the position.

"Abrams has averaged 19 home runs and 36 steals over the last three seasons, and he's probably a better fantasy player than he is a real-life player, but his middling batting average, lack of RBI chances hitting leadoff and lack of run scoring opportunities playing for what will likely be baseball's worst team gives him less upside than almost anyone else in the top 75."

While Abrams is an excellent player, the team he plays for does not help. Also, batting leadoff takes away many opportunities for him to drive in runs, and the lack of offense behind him doesn't allow him to score as many runs as he should.

There are better options at shortstop that fantasy owners should consider over Abrams.
