Michael Jordan and Joe Dumars had one of the most intense rivalries in NBA history. Their matchups produced some of the most epic moments in the game, as Jordan led the Bulls while Dumars headlined the Pistons. They faced off on the court for more than a decade and had great respect for each other.
Earlier this year, in April, the New Orleans Pelicans hired Joe Dumars as the executive vice president of basketball operations. After his arrival, there were rumors of an unnamed person helping Dumars do his job.
On Friday, the Pelicans confirmed that they have hired Dumar's son, Jordan Dumars, as a basketball operations consultant. Shamit Dua, a WDSU contributor, broke the news to the community on X.

"Jordan Dumars?" one fan said with a picture of MJ shooting the ball over Dumars. "Wait, Joe Dumars of the Bad Boy Pistons named his son 'Jordan'? How do you do this regardless of how much you like the name???" another fan said. Joe Dumars once admitted to never trying to trash-talk Michael Jordan
The Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons were fierce rivals in the late 1980s. The Pistons had transformed themselves into a championship contender, while Michael Jordan had established himself as the best player in the league.
MJ was the biggest thorn in the Pistons' plan to win it all, so they came up with the infamous "Jordan rules", and Joe Dumars was the one tasked to guard MJ during its execution.
However, despite having chippy moments, Jordan respected Dumars and his great defense. In an article for Sports Illustrated in 2023, the Pistons legend admitted to having never trash-talked MJ during their 14-year-long rivalry.
"He and I matched up against each other for 14 straight years. In those 14 years, never once did he try to trash-talk me, and never once did I try to trash-talk him," he said. "It was toe-to-toe, nose-to-nose, for 14 straight years, and we never said a negative word to each other on the court. I respected him."Dumars revealed that in the years that the Pistons beat MJ, he would shake his hand and wish him good luck for the next stage.
