The second Test between India and South Africa will commence on Saturday, November 22 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. The hosts are in serious trouble at the moment, having lost the series opener at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
India's 3-0 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand is still fresh in memory. Although they had a few productive outings against England and the West Indies, the two-time World Test Championship finalists have a tall task on their hands if they are to make the final of the ongoing cycle.
Temba Bavuma has led South Africa splendidly, having won 10 of his 11 Tests as captain. The Proteas, who currently hold the mace, turned in a spirited display in Kolkata to pile on the misery for Gautam Gambhir and Co.
It seemed like India would cruise through the home rubber, but the visitors aren't going down without a serious fight. Which team will come out on top in Guwahati?

IND vs SA 2025: India start with their backs against the wall
India v South Africa Test - Day 3. - Source: GettyIndia's path to victory is fairly clear. They need to prepare a sporting wicket and hope that their obvious quality in both departments shines through. Reports suggest that a traditional subcontinental wicket is on the cards, with runs expected on the first two days and spin likely to dominate over the remainder of the contest.
Shubman Gill's absence will be a serious blow to India, but they still have the resources needed to manage. Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav showed glimpses of how potent they can be in tandem, while Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are two of the best in the business in both departments.
For South Africa, captain Temba Bavuma and off-spinner Simon Harmer did the star turn in the first Test. Others like Aiden Markram and Marco Jansen remain key contributors, but whether the batting unit can really dominate on a slightly flatter track remains to be seen. There are also concerns over whether Jansen and Corbin Bosch can impress without much help from the conditions.
This is a mightily close call, and South Africa have every chance to getting the job done outright. However, if India make just a few sensible decisions, they should be able to restore parity in the two-match series.
Prediction: India to win the 2nd Test vs South Africa.
