Fan at Red Sox game dumps milk all over their head in wild celebration

Got milk?

One Red Sox fan had a gallon of it.

Or at least he did Saturday until Jarren Duran homered to cut Boston’s deficit in half, 2-1, leading off the bottom of the first inning.

That’s when the unexpected happened.

After Duran touched home plate and the television cameras panned around rain-soaked Fenway Park to find celebrating fans, one dancing fan appeared with a jug of milk in his hand.

He unscrewed the top to start chugging, right?

Nope.

Maybe the first clue should’ve been his Indianapolis 500 T-shirt, in a shade of green to match the Red Sox’s City Connect jerseys.

The fan poured the milk on his head, with only a little getting in his mouth.

There is a tradition dating back to 1936 of Indianapolis 500 winners chugging milk after their victory.

It is typical that more ends up on their face than in their mouth.

Two-time defending champion Josef Newgarden will race for a three-peat on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Like the Red Sox-Orioles on FS1, the Indianapolis 500 will be aired on a Fox property.

If it was a bit of a cross-promotion, play-by-play announcer Kevin Kugler sure sounded surprised.

“Wait a minute,” he said. “Oh my gosh! Josef Newgarden might actually want that milk if he is going to get the 3-peat at the Indy 500 on [Sunday]. What about that guy? Bringing a whole half-gallon of milk in.”

His partner in the booth, analyst Eric Karros, chimed in, “Do you think that halfway through that he’s thinking, ‘I don’t know if this was such a great idea?’”

The Red Sox, on the strength of a Rafael Devers walk-off single, won the game in 10 innings, 6-5.
