Kyle Pitts hasn’t been forgotten in Atlanta and he’s being backed by the front office.
As the Falcons enter a new era with rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr., there’s one target the front office still believes can be a star in this offense and its tight end Kyle Pitts.
According to Falcons beat writer Terrin Waack GM Terry Fontenot doubled down on the franchise’s faith in the former No. 4 overall pick this week, saying Pitts “has the right mindset” and a desire to “be the best he can for us.”
That’s a clear sign Atlanta’s leadership hasn’t lost confidence in a player once hailed as a generational tight end talent, even after many setbacks and disappointing seasons.
Pitts’ career so far has been a roller coaster. After a 1,000-yard rookie season in 2021, he battled through injuries, coaching inconsistency, and a revolving door at quarterback. He’s also been a frustrating piece in an offense that struggled to consistently get him the ball in space.
But there seems to be a turning point and things are changing.
In the early days of training camp, Penix has made it clear that he’s lookingPitts' way. The physical tools are there. And now, with a renewed commitment from the front office and a QB unafraid to take shots, Pitts may finally get the chance to be the mismatch nightmare Atlanta drafted him to be.
Fontenot’s public backing of Pitts isn’t just talk, it's strategic. With the team under year two in the new offense under Raheem Morris and Zac Robinson, Pitts becomes a crucial outlet for a young quarterback. He’s still only 24. He’s healthy. And he still draws attention from safeties and linebackers the second he leaves the line.
The Falcons don’t need him to be the best player on the field although that would be amazing, they need him to be a reliable, explosive option in a revamped passing game.
The Falcons have changed quarterbacks, coaches, and coordinators, but their stance on Kyle Pitts remains the same.
If he stays healthy and gets consistent looks, 2025 could finally be the season where potential meets production. And if that happens, Atlanta’s ceiling just got a whole lot higher, and who knows where that could take this team.
