Falcons searching for answers after crushing loss to Carolina

ATLANTA — Frustration was evident throughout the Atlanta Falcons’ sideline Sunday as another difficult offensive performance turned into a 34-3 loss to the Carolina Panthers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Afterward, Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski acknowledged that losing — and not simply the team’s quarterback struggles — can affect everyone inside the locker room.

“I think lack of success, period, has a trickle-down to all human beings,” Stefanski said when asked whether Atlanta’s quarterback issues were contributing to the frustration seen on the sideline. “We got great resolve. We got great resilience in that locker room. We’ll make sure that we’re ready to go Thursday night.”

Atlanta fell to 0-2 after an afternoon in which almost nothing went right offensively. Starting quarterback Cooper Rush completed 10 of 17 passes for 86 yards, threw two interceptions and lost a fumble before being replaced by undrafted rookie Jack Strand in the third quarter. 

Strand received a loud ovation when he entered, but his first NFL pass was intercepted by Devin Lloyd and returned 16 yards for a touchdown. Strand finished 8-of-15 for 59 yards with an interception and a lost fumble. 
 

Falcons’ quarterback struggles fuel frustration in blowout loss

Despite the quarterbacks’ struggles, Stefanski refused to place Atlanta’s problems entirely on one position.

“I’m disappointed in our performance as a football team,” Stefanski said. “That’s all of us. It’s not just one position.”

The Falcons have yet to reach the red zone through their first two games, underscoring the offensive issues facing Stefanski and his staff. 

There will not be much time for Atlanta to dwell on Sunday’s performance.

The Falcons face a short turnaround with a Thursday night road matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Whether Atlanta makes another change at quarterback remains uncertain, but Stefanski’s message was clear: frustration cannot become division inside the locker room.

For an 0-2 team searching for answers, resilience will quickly be put to the test.
