Bears player hit with NFL punishment for actions in season opener

The Chicago Bears are deep into Week 2, but there are still some lingering effects from their Week 1 win over the Carolina Panthers, 59-37. Sure, it was fantastic for Chicago to watch the Bears totally trounce the Panthers with that lopsided victory, but one Bears player is getting some punishment for what he did during that game.

Every weekend during the season, the NFL hands down punishments to players who broke the rules on the field in the week's prior games. These are actions that could have, or did, result in injuries or something that goes against the NFL's ethics. Sometimes these players didn't even get penalties during the game, but after review, the NFL deems it necessary.

According to the NFL's official website, the league "uses the fine schedule to outline the league’s and the union’s expectations for players to conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league."

Also, these rules are in place to "protect the players from unnecessary risk, promote player safety and emphasize sportsmanship and respect of teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and fans."

Bears' Jahdae Walker fined for taunting Panthers player

The NFL is handing Bears wide receiver Jahdae Walker punishment in the form of a fine for $5,620 for actions taken in the fourth quarter of the game at the 9:33 mark. He has an "unsportsmanlike conduct" violation for "taunting."

What he basically did was stand over a Panthers player and taunt him following a powerful block. The NFL didn't think it was appropriate, so they slapped him with that fine.

The good news is that these fines go to a good cause. Per the NFL, the fines go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to help "support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game."

Walker can protest the fine if he decides to do that. But, if not, that fee goes to a solid cause.
