Falcons releasing former $180 million Pro Bowler could interest Bengals, Browns, Rams

The Atlanta Falcons recently made the move everyone expected them to this offseason.

That move was the release of quarterback Kirk Cousins, who will now look for a new home for the 2026 campaign.

While Cousins likely wants to start, there really aren't any clear QB1 jobs available after the first handful of days in free agency, which means he'll likely have to settle for a backup job if he wants to keep playing.

Three teams that could have interest in bringing in Cousins as a backup are the Los Angeles Rams, Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns.

The Rams are expected to bring back veteran backup Jimmy Garoppolo, who has backed up Matthew Stafford the past two seasons. However, Jimmy G is still unsigned and on the open market and it isn't clear if he's coming back.

If he doesn't return, the Rams, who are widely viewed as Super Bowl favorites out of the NFC, should be keen on bringing in an experienced veteran to sit behind the 38-year-old Stafford if Garoppolo departs.

In Cleveland, the Browns' quarterbacks room consists of Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel.

If Cousins comes cheap enough, we could see new head coach Todd Monken and Co. opt to bring him in as competition and a possible one-year bridge option.

Last but not least, we have the Bengals, who have a superstar signal-caller in Joe Burrow, whose injury history is well-documented.

The Bengals cut ties with Jake Browning, and Joe Flacco is still unsigned.

With head coach Zac Taylor and de facto general manager Duke Tobin likely on the hot seat, we fully expect the Bengals to sign a veteran backup as an insurance policy, so Cousins makes sense.
