Not every player gets to choose the ending of their NFL career.
Many guys are phased out more naturally, when injuries and age catch up with them. That doesn't mean they don't want to return and keep playing football.
That's what former Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman is feeling lately.
Freeman shared this post on X on Tuesday:
My Dream: Return to the NFL someday.

This would be a pretty unprecedented comeback for Freeman.
He'll turn 34 years old on March 15, so that's really old for an NFL running back.
He also last played in the NFL in 2021 for the Baltimore Ravens. He actually was decent that year, running 133 times for 576 yards (4.3 yards per carry) and five touchdowns.
Freeman played eight NFL seasons overall after being a fourth-round pick by the Falcons in 2014.
His best two seasons were 2015 and 2016.
He went 265 runs for 1,056 yards and 11 TDs, then 227 rushes for 1,079 yards and 11 more touchdowns.
Freeman had 865 yards in 2017, then missed most of 2018 with injury. He went for 656 more yards in 2019, then left for a limited season with the Giants in 2020 before that final Ravens season.
There's really no incentive for an NFL team to bring Freeman aboard, so he's probably out of luck.
But it's fun to dream.
