F1 Chinese Grand Prix results: Who won, full classification, driver standings after Shanghai race

1 hour ago 2

The 2026 F1 season went to the Shanghai International Circuit this weekend for the Chinese Grand Prix.

George Russell won the opening race in Australia last week as Mercedes laid down a marker to rival constructors struggling with the new car regulations for this year.

Russell and teammate Kimi Antonelli locked out the front row for the sprint on Saturday, with the former winning the shortened event ahead of the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Antonelli, though, claimed pole position for the first time in his career for Sunday's main event.

Here is how the race played out.

F1 Chinese Grand Prix results

Kimi Antonelli won the Chinese Grand Prix ahead of teammate Russell. It was the first race win of the Italian teenager's career in F1.

Russell took second place, while Hamilton won a battle with Leclerc to finish P3 and finally get a first podium finish for Ferrari, his first since joining the team for the start of the 2025 season.

Hamilton took the lead as the Ferraris made a terrific start, but the raw pace of the Mercedes proved too much as Antonelli and Russell regained their positions. From there, another one-two for the team rarely looked in doubt.

McLaren had a torrid time, with neither car able to take to the starting grid because of different technical issues. World champion Max Verstappen, who had spoken of the need to "survive" every lap in this new era, retired with nine laps to go.

Mercedes and Ferrari certainly seem to have few such complaints, and a two-way constructors' battle is already being set in motion. For Antonelli, this race was a dream come true.

"I'm speechless, I'm about to cry to be honest," he said. "Thank you to the team for helping me to achieve this dream.

"I really wanted to bring Italy back to the top, and we did today. Even if I gave myself a little bit of a heart attack with the flat-spot, we did it.

"It was not an easy start, I cover too much on the inside and gave too much room to the Ferrari. But we were able to bring it home."
