Online backlash continues to build after President Donald Trump doubled down on controversial remarks linking filmmaker Rob Reiner’s death to what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

The comments, first posted on Truth Social on December 15, 2925, and later reiterated to reporters, drew condemnation from lawmakers, celebrities, and media figures across the political spectrum.

As debate spilled onto social media, filmmaker and commentator Andy Signore weighed in, directing his anger not only at the President’s remarks but at users who attempted to defend them.

In a sharply worded reply to a post on X (formerly Twitter) on December 17, 2025, that claimed Reiner should have "put his energy into being a good father to Nick", Signore accused Trump supporters of ignoring basic facts surrounding the tragedy, arguing that Rob Reiner had spent years trying to help his son.

F******g disgusted by these idiotic takes… take ten minutes to leave Truth Social, and you’ll learn Rob Reiner did EVERYTHING to try and save his son. Sickened by these cult members destroying our beautiful country. Enough toxic ignorance

More about President Donald Trump's remarks and the following reactions

President Donald Trump’s initial Truth Social post described the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner as “very sad,” but went on to criticize the director as “very bad for our country” and to suggest his politics played a role in his fate.

"A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS. He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!"

According to the report from the BBC on December 16, 2025, the US President later repeated those criticisms to reporters, again labeling Reiner a “deranged person,” despite police confirming that the couple’s son had been arrested and that no motive had been established.

The remarks sparked bipartisan condemnation. Republican lawmakers, including Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene, said the comments were inappropriate and emphasized that the situation was a family tragedy deserving empathy, not political attacks, according to the BBC.

Democratic officials and celebrities echoed those sentiments, with California Governor Gavin Newsom calling the President’s post “sick,” and actor Patrick Schwarzenegger describing it as “disgusting”, the Guardian reported on December 15, 2025.

In his December 17, 2025, post on X (formerly Twitter), Andy Signore urged users to step away from partisan platforms and look at publicly reported details of the case. “Take ten minutes to leave Truth Social,” he wrote, adding that doing so would show that Reiner “did EVERYTHING to try and save his son.”

His comments came amid widespread reporting that Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Los Angeles home, with their son Nick arrested on suspicion of murder.

Authorities have not suggested any political motive or link between Reiner’s outspoken criticism of the US President and the killings, according to the report by the BBC. Investigations into the tragedy remain ongoing.
