There are plenty of very exciting prospects around Major League Baseball, but the Seattle Mariners might have one of the most exciting around the league.
While Seattle is eyeing another infield addition, one infield prospect, who's just 20 years old, could be making his MLB debut very soon for the Mariners.
Daniel Kramer of MLB.com highlighted a Mariners prospect that's the most interesting to watch in 2026, and the choice was obvious. Colt Emerson, a 20-year-old infielder, could be making his debut as soon as Opening Day.
Mariners' Colt Emerson named top prospect to watch in 2026
"Emerson is just 20 years old but on the Major League doorstep," Kramer writes, "with the chance to play his way onto the Opening Day roster this spring - much like Julio Rodriguez did in 2022."
If Emerson breaks into the Major Leagues the same way that Julio Rodriguez did four years ago, then it would be a massive coup for the Mariners.
He's played shortstop in the minors, but with open spots at second base and third base, his most likely landing spot would be as the Eugenio Suarez replacement.
Emerson is one of the youngest prospects who could break out in the Major Leagues in 2026, and after an incredible 2025 season, with a .285 average and .841 OPS in 130 games across three levels of play, he has a realistic chance to make the MLB roster.
While it was a very brief stint in Triple-A, Emerson hit .364 with a 1.171 OPS across six games. In 90 games at High-A, he hit .281 with an .841 OPS. In 34 games at Double-A, he hit .282 with a .790 OPS.
He provides decent power, hitting 16 home runs this past season, while boasting quality offense as a whole. While he's not a superhero when it comes to speed, power, or contact, his overall skillset is more than worth superstar status.
Emerson has a chance to make his MLB debut this upcoming season at just 20 years old, and Kramer notes he has a chance to even play so well to make his debut on Opening Day.
