Klay Thompson hasn’t minced his words on a potential reunion with the Golden State Warriors.
During the recent Fanatics Fest event, Thompson was asked about his feelings about returning to the Bay, and his response should excite Warriors fans.
"Shoot, I don't know,” Thompson said Monday. “I got one year on my deal. It'd be nice to end it in Golden State.”
The day before, Thompson received positive news regarding the possibility of him returning to his first NBA home this summer.
“There would be some momentum for that,” one NBA executive told Heavy’s Sean Deveney. “If you’re gonna miss out on LeBron James and you’re the Warriors, those guys are under some pressure because they really did not do anything else and the team is beat up with injuries (to Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody), and Stephen Curry is another year older.”
“Rolling out the red carpet for Klay Thompson, bygones be bygones and all of that, that would take some of the sting out.”
With Thompson being a prime trade/buyout candidate for the Dallas Mavericks, it’s safe to assume he’ll be looking to join a contender who could make a respectable postseason run in 2026-27. While the Warriors are far from a finished product, reuniting Stephen Curry with his prolific former splash brother would give them a chance to turn back the clock and make a valiant attempt at a late-career championship run.
While clearly not at the top of his game, Thompson finished the 2025-26 campaign with a 38.3% three-point shooting percentage, marking his 15th consecutive season shooting above the league average (which is 35-36%).
If James doesn’t take his talents to the Bay, aggressively pursuing Thompson seems to be among the most logical secondary options for the Warriors.
