Isiah Kiner-Falefa recently said some questionable things, and he found himself facing backlash from New York Yankees fans after the comments he made. IKF was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays a season ago.
Now a member of the Boston Red Sox, Kiner-Falefa said that his remarks weren’t meant as a diss toward his former team. The veteran infielder explained that his comments were simply about the truths of postseason pitching matchups, particularly involving Boston’s staff.
“I just gave the honest answer,” Kiner-Falefa said, per Greg Joyce of the NY Post. “It is what it is. I love the guys over there. I have nothing bad to say about anybody over there. It was just a matchup thing. [Garrett] Crochet’s an unbelievable pitcher and we did not want to face Crochet after he went eight innings against us [in late September].”
When a starter like Garrett Crochet is on the bump, opposing teams typically look for ways to avoid facing him in a playoff game. Crochet has the stuff to be the best starter in the game.
While rivalries like the Red Sox and Yankees make any comment bigger than they are, Kiner-Falefa also knew what he was doing when he made them.
He can walk it back now and say he didn’t mean it like that, but most fans know why the comments were made.
