The Philadelphia Phillies had a weird offseason, with Dave Dombrowski and Bryce Harper throwing some shade at each other a few times.
I’ll always back the players and say that Harper was right, as he’s been one of the best five players in this league for a very long time and deserves nothing but respect.
However, that disrespect could put him in a position to ask out one day, even if it seems unlikely as of now.
At least that’s what Pinstripes Nation’s Esteban Quiñones suggested, as he believes the Yankees could attempt to make a play for Harper in the future by bringing in his former teammate and close friend, Rhys Hoskins.
“The idea is subtle but deliberate,” Quiñones wrote. “Hoskins is 33 years old and recently signed a minor-league deal with Cleveland Guardians. Given that the Yankees just extended a 38-year-old in Paul Goldschmidt, Hoskins’ age is not at all unreasonable. He brings right-handed power, postseason experience and, crucially, a close friendship with Harper.”
Hoskins and Harper spent several seasons together with the Phillies, and are clearly good friends to this day. Because of that relationship, Quiñones thinks that adding Hoskins could potentially make the Yankees a more attractive destination if Harper ever reconsidered his long-term future.
