Ex-Laker LeBron James reportedly 'irritated' by NBA's Adam Silver comment, delayed decision

The LeBron James effect has taken the entire NBA by storm, as the next wave of free agents has yet to sign while waiting to see what the four-time NBA champion decides. James has been taking his time with one of the biggest decisions of the offseason.

Free agency has been underway for nearly a month, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently commented that he hopes James will make a decision soon due to scheduling reasons.

“I would like him to make his announcement already, so he can finish the schedule. Because as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule. But it will influence how we set the schedule, how we set opening week, Christmas Day, etc,” Silver said.

Silver’s comments created an interesting situation, as James’ agent Rich Paul admitted that he met with the commissioner to ask him not to rush his client through the process.

“I saw Adam in NY and we discussed it…if he (Bron) doesn’t know — you can’t rush it…we’re not going to be rushed…it’s his choice to make…just like Pat (Riley) said…there’s been several people who called and said ‘hey Rich is there anymore that we should be doing?’ And my answer is no. We don’t need you to go above and beyond…all the messages have been sent…we’re not saying don’t fill your roster spots,” Paul told Max Kellerman of Game Over podcast.

On Wednesday morning, 92.3 The Fan Cleveland’s Andy Baskin reported that he heard James had already made a decision before Silver’s comments.

“Here's what I was told yesterday by a reliable source. Last week, LeBron's crew was probably ready to make an announcement. 'Irritated' was the word I was told, by the commissioner pushing them...so they decided to hold back,” Baskin said.

If true, Silver’s comments may have extended an offseason process that was already close to ending. If James was prepared to announce his decision, the timing of the commissioner’s remarks could have played a role in delaying the announcement.

This situation shows that the four-time NBA champion is determined to make this decision on his own timeline. The summer continues to revolve around James, with a resolution potentially coming within days or possibly weeks depending on how long he wants to take before making his final choice.
