ESPN shockingly ranks 2025 Seahawks as one of the NFL's greatest teams

The Seattle Seahawks are the winners of Super Bowl 60, their second Super Bowl title in franchise history. Since 1967, there have been 60 teams to win the Super Bowl, and the Seahawks this season are likely one of the best ever.

Their incredible defense and special teams, combined with a potent offense that's capable of explosive plays, make the 2025 Seahawks an incredible team. But, where do they rank all-time?

ESPN's Aaron Schatz ranked all 60 Super Bowl-winning teams in NFL history. And this year's Seahawks team earned a shocking ranking, placing third all-time for Super Bowl teams in the 60 years of the Big Game.

"This placement for the 2025 Seahawks team will certainly shock most fans," Schatz writes, "as there was never the public sentiment that the Seahawks were one of the best teams in NFL history. But they were according to DVOA."

While the Seahawks were widely panned as the best team in the league this year, the Los Angeles Rams were also in those conversations and were neck-and-neck for most of the year.

And they nearly lost to the Rams as well in their Super Bowl run. But, fittingly, going by DVOA, the Rams and Seahawks were both top-10 teams in NFL history. The only difference was the Seahawks NFC Championship win.

Sam Darnold turned the ball over more than any other quarterback in the NFL, and the run game for most of the year wasn't the best. But when it mattered most, Darnold was incredible, the defense stood strong, and Kenneth Walker took over.

While the Seahawks this season might not have the "Legion of Boom" nickname or a historic offense like some other top teams, their overall prowess and dominance made them one of the best teams ever.

Schatz uses DVOA as the crux of his argument, and with the Seahawks ranking in the top-10 by DVOA since 1978, along with their three losses coming by a combined nine points, and their schedule being the 8th hardest in the league this season, the Seahawks were incredibly impressive this season.

Only two teams are ahead of the Seahawks all-time, according to Schatz: The 1985 Chicago Bears and the 1991 Washington Commanders. 

Thanks to a combination of great defense, special teams, a tough schedule, dominance in the playoffs, and a great DVOA, Schatz for ESPN ranks the 2025 Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks as the third-best team to ever win the Super Bowl.
