ESPN analyst shares White Sox belief amid surprise power-surge this season

The Chicago White Sox are 39-37 and second in the AL Central this season. They're one game back of the Cleveland Guardians, and they're up 1.5 games on the AL Wild Card field.

The promising season thus far is thanks to a lot of reasons, one of which is the surprising power-surge this team has had this season. The White Sox's biggest strength in 2026 has been their power.

But, is this power for real? ESPN analyst David Schoenfield believes this team's power to be legitimate, as Colson Montgomery, Miguel Vargas, and Munetaka Murakami have helped make this team one of the most powerful in all of MLB.

White Sox power is for real, per ESPN analyst

"Biggest strength: Power. Will it continue? Yes, I think so, although there might be a drop-off until Murakami returns around the All-Star break," Schoenfield writes.

This White Sox lineup is making around $48 million this season, and yet, their power-production has been close to on-par with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are spending around $204 million on position players this season.

The Dodgers have 114 home runs this season, while the White Sox have 106. The White Sox offense has been one of the best power-hitting teams, and that's even been the case while Murakami has been out for more than three weeks.

Murakami has 20 homers, Montgomery has 20, Vargas has 16, Andrew Benintendi has nine, Randal Grichuk has seven, Chase Meidroth has six, Drew Romo has five, Derek Hill (before being traded) had four, and Sam Antonacci has four as well.

Add in three from Everson Pereira and Tristan Peters, two from Edgar Quero, and one from Luisangel Acuna, Jacob Gonzalez, Austin Hays, Jarred Kelenic, Braden Montgomery, Tanner Murray, and Junior Perez, and the White Sox's elite power-hitting this season has been a big storyline.

Schoenfield believes this power-hitting production will continue for the White Sox, though it might not be as robust with Murakami out for a while.

But, even so, the White Sox are one of the best power-hitting teams in baseball, and such a surprising season looks to be a very real storyline for the team this season.
