ESPN analyst predicts Chargers' 0-2 start is only beginning of a disastrous season

The Los Angeles Chargers lost their Week 1 and Week 2 matchups by the same 26-14 score. Both losses should've been wins, at least based on the quality of the opponent. The Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders should've been wins for the Chargers.

Instead, they're 0-2, Mike McDaniel's offense has looked horrible; the offensive line is still a mess; Justin Herbert is playing well below where he's been before; and things might be on the cusp of spiraling out of control.

ESPN's Ben Solak believes the Chargers might be headed for disaster after this 0-2 start. He's predicting the Chargers will wind up with a top-10 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, which would mean this season is a complete failure waiting to happen.

"I think ... The Chargers will pick in the top 10 of next year's draft," Solak writes. "I can't name 10 teams worse than the Chargers (0-2) through two weeks. I'm not even sure I can name five."

Solak's clear worries about this Chargers team are warranted, as the issues on this roster are widespread, and it doesn't look like much is going to change anytime soon.

Herbert isn't playing at a high level, McDaniel's offense looks unprepared, the offensive line is shaky, the supporting cast (outside of Ladd McConkey, who is banged up) is questionable at best, and the defense isn't as promising as it should be.

Overall, this Chargers team is incredibly disappointing so far. But it might only get worse. Looking at their schedule coming up, the Chargers might be headed towards the bottom of the NFL.

Week 3 is a matchup against the Buffalo Bills, followed by games against the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, and Kansas City Chiefs before their Week 7 bye.

That's a brutal stretch of games for the Chargers. It would not be a surprise if they went into their bye week 0-6. After the bye, things don't get much easier.

The Los Angeles Rams in Week 8, followed by the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, set things up for what could be an 0-9 start to the season that, after this 0-2 start, wouldn't really be surprising.

Solak predicting the Chargers will end up with a top-10 pick is thanks to this gauntlet of games for the Chargers. But even after that stretch, while they lighten up a bit, it's still far from a soft schedule.

The New York Jets, New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, Chiefs, and Broncos are the Chargers' schedule from Week 11 through the end of the season.

There should be a few wins there, with the Dolphins and Jets sticking out as clear matchup advantages. But for this struggling Chargers team, a complete disaster looks very possible after this ill-timed 0-2 start to the season.
