Ernie Accorsi knows the ‘concept’ dilemma Giants face with No. 3 pick

The coach was Tom Coughlin. The general manager was Ernie Accorsi. The date was April 29, 2006. The place was Radio City Music Hall. The event was the NFL draft. 

The NFL commissioner, announcing his last first-round pick before Roger Goodell would get his turn at the 2007 draft, was Paul Tagliabue: 

“With the 32nd choice in the 2006 NFL draft, acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New York Giants select Mathias Kiwanuka, Boston College defensive end.” 

All these years later, I asked Accorsi why Kiwanuka — when the roster boasted pass rushers named Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora and second-year Justin Tuck.
