The Miami Heat have become arguably the biggest disappointment of the 2026-27 NBA season. Before the season started, a big part of the NBA community saw them as one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference. However, that all changed with the first four games of the season.
All of those games have ended in defeat, which is not a good look for the Heat. Head coach Erik Spoelstra still believes in his team, but he does acknowledge that this is a nightmare start to the season when they expected so much more.
Erik Spoelstra promises that the Heat will get there after a sluggish start
Teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks were seen as the Eastern Conference favorites alongside the Heat. Unfortunately for 2/3 of that trio, only the 76ers have been off to a strong start. Despite the Knicks not winning a game just yet, it seems the Heat are still the most disappointing team so far this season.
It is a mixture of offensive issues, with Bam Adebayo being the most prominent player who has struggled mightily. Even if Giannis Antetokounmpo has played at an elite level, that is not enough to resolve all the issues that the Heat have faced.

Spoelstra has been realistic with his approach to these losses. He acknowledges a lot of the problems with how they were losing, but he also wants people to know that this is only a rough patch. He knows that the Heat will bounce back from these struggles to start the year.
"It's disappointing for sure. This is not the start that anybody has wanted, but it has happened. We have to address what's in front of us, and we need to continue to be more consistent with our game," Spoelstra said after the game and their fourth loss in a row.
"We'll get there, but I can see and feel how much our guys are wanting to play well, and it's not happening, so we have to manage that, and show the fortitude until we get a breakthrough."
It is certainly tough to see how the Heat have continued to struggle this way. They are one of the most talented teams in the Eastern Conference, so they just have to live up to those expectations moving forward. It will be tough to bounce back from such a bad start, but anything is possible in the NBA.
