Enzo Maresca slams 'embarrassing' dismissals after sixth red card in nine matches

Chelsea played out a thrilling 4-3 win against Wolverhampton despite being reduced to 10 men late in the second half.

Enzo Maresca's side scored three first-half goals, thanks to Andrey Santos, Tyrique George, and Estevao, but their defense couldn't hold up, with Wolves scoring three second-half goals to level the match.

Chelsea escaped after a stunning Jamie Gittens striker, but striker Liam Delap was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the span of seven minutes.

Delap, who hasn't played for 10 weeks, will now miss Chelsea's Premier League match against Tottenham at the weekend.

Maresca revealed his thoughts on the red card after the game, and the manager spoke on Chelsea's lack of discipline this season.

What did Maresca say about Delap's red card?

Speaking after the match, Maresca admitted that the red card was the correct decision.

The manager was asked whether he agreed, and he said, "Absolutely, yes. Stupid foul. We can avoid that."

Delap pushed Yerson Mosquera, resulting in the first yellow card, before elbowing Emmanuel Agbadou as both players went for the ball.

Maresca continued, "The three goals we conceded, I think all of them we can avoid. For sure, today we also had a very stupid red card that was completely unnecessary.

"After the first yellow card, I told him [Delap] four or five times to keep calm. But Liam is a player who, when he's on the pitch, is probably playing the game for himself and struggles to realise and listen to those around him."

Chelsea have struggled with having players, and the manager, sent off this season. Delap became the latest to see red, with Robert Sanchez, Trevoh Chalobah, Joao Pedro, Malo Gusto, and Maresca all being sent off in previous matches.

Maresca was asked about whether Chelsea have a lack of discipline and the manager said, "I completely understand when there are red cards like against Brighton or Manchester United, that's difficult, but the red cards against Nottingham Forest and today, both we can and have to avoid.

"It's embarrassing when it's a red card like today because it's two yellow cards in five or 10 minutes. Both, I think, we can avoid. So it's not good."
