Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is reportedly considering his future at the club after getting 'frustrated' with his lack of independence in taking decisions and the Blues' strategic direction.
The Italian's future at Stamford Bridge is seemingly dangling by a thread following his "worst 48 hours" comment in the build-up to the 2-0 Premier League home win over Everton last month.
Following that game, the Blues beat Cardiff City 3-1 away in the EFL Cup quarter-final but have since gone winless in three games in the Premier League - losing one - drawing 2-2 at home to Bournemouth earlier this week.
As reported by Ben Jacobs of talkSPORT, the Italian didn't attend the post-game press conference after the Bournemouth game, as he's contemplating his future at Stamford Bridge. Jacobs tweeted:
"Exclusive: Enzo Maresca was not sick post Bournemouth. Understand he chose not to attend the post-match press conference because he is in the middle of making a decision as he considers his options at the club. "Understand Maresca continues to be frustrated by aspects of the Chelsea project affecting his independence to make decisions and strategic elements don’t always align with how he wants to manage the team. "This led to his post-Everton comments, which had been brewing for some time. Maresca had said publicly he loves Chelsea as a club and its fanbase and relishes the pressure of delivering results, but my understanding is he is struggling to work within certain conditions."The Blues are fifth in the standings after 19 games, winning eight, trailing leaders Arsenal (45) by 15 points.
What did Enzo Maresca say after Chelsea's Everton win?
Chelsea head coach Enzo MarescaChelsea's aforementioned win over Everton snapped a three-game winless run in the league. They have since embarked on another three-game winless skid, frustrating fans.
However, head coach Enzo Maresca's post-game comments following the victory over the Toffees suggested that all is not well at the club. The Italian said in the post-game press conference (as per The Guardian) without pointing the finger at anyone in particular:
“The last 48 hours have been the hardest since I joined the club because so many people didn’t support me and the team.”He added that there was no issue with fans, though, and that he's very 'happy' with them:
“I love the fans, and we are very happy with the fans.”Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto scored in the first half to give victory to the Blues, but their winless run since then has effectively ruled them out of title contention.
