EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — England hope to put their struggles against a low block to bed and secure a spot atop Group L as they wrap up the group stage with a game against Panama from MetLife Stadium on Saturday.
The Three Lions struggled to a scoreless draw with Ghana last time out, creating very little in the attack. They were lucky not to lose, as Ezri Konsa got away with what should have been a penalty to Ghana, and Harry Kane missed a gilt-edged chance late in the match.
There are lineup questions for Thomas Tuchel to test, and this match could be the right time to do so, with Anthony Gordon struggling on the wing and being pressed for action by Marcus Rashford.
A win for England would see them top the group as long as they maintain their goal differential advantage, while a draw would put them at risk of being jumped by either Ghana or Croatia in the standings. Panama, meanwhile, are in dire straits and need to win this game for any chance of advancing, while also needing Croatia to lose to Ghana.

Prematch
3 p.m. - England have been unsettled by the news of a few injuries to the squad as the knockout stage approaches. Declan Rice has apparently been dealing with a nerve issue in his back for months, and has also picked up a calf injury, which may keep him out this game and a few others.
Elliot Anderson has a slight groin problem, and then Reece James cropped up with another hamstring problem. Thomas Tuchel tried to argue that "nobody could see it coming," but the reality was, everyone knew this was a risk. Except Tuchel, it would appear, because he did not bring appropriate cover for James at right-back — Trent Alexander-Arnold was left at home. Will it affect their tournament?
