‘Embarrassing’ wedding guests pull ‘some trashy s–t’ that happens more than you’d expect

Weddings are home to all kinds of weird events and even weirder people, even if they are family.

But, one Reddit user is calling out a peculiar faux pas that is apparently more common than you might think.

“It was so embarrassing”

A woman has taken to Reddit after witnessing a strange event at her sister’s wedding.

The poster said that the buffet had just opened for guests to go and get their dinner.

But, because of some greedy family members, some people may have gone hungry.

“This happened during my sister’s wedding reception,” the post began.

“The food was just announced open for the buffet, and while most guests were lining up to eat, some of my relatives from my mother’s side skipped the line completely and started filling plastic bags with food to take home, before even having a plate for themselves.”

Despite trying to step in, the woman said she was too late to stop it.

“It was so embarrassing, especially for the newlyweds who paid for everything. Like, can we enjoy the event?” she said.

“That might actually be the wildest wedding thing I’ve ever seen”

Commenters on the post were floored by this behavior, calling these family members ‘trashy’ and ‘entitled’.

“That might actually be the wildest wedding thing I’ve ever seen. They would never set foot at another family function in my family,” one person said.

“Between choking from second hand embarrassment and nothing good being able to come out of my mouth: I probably would have just watched the s–t show then escorted them to the door before they could sit back down. Plastic bags at a wedding is so far out there,” another added.

“That’s some trashy s–t,” said a third.

“That’s so entitled I’m disgusted. If that was my wedding I would’ve told them to keep the food and leave the wedding immediately,” a fourth agreed.

Why is this happening???

But, despite the seemingly outlandish actions, commenters assured that this was no isolated incident, saying they’ve had similar things occur at their own weddings — and other events.

“We had a ‘candy’ dessert bar setup as party favors — like the little bins at a candy store with gummies, gumballs etc. and little Chinese takeout boxes. Because it was an elaborate display it was up there when the reception started, but with signs all over it telling people it was for after the reception. My aunt/uncle/cousins ran in as soon as the doors opened and started loading up multiple boxes and put them on their table, before we were even in the room since we were off taking pictures,” said one person.

“I knew a couple who would go to funerals just for the buffet, eat and then just piss off. It takes a special kind of ignorance and audacity to behave this way, it’s genuinely embarrassing for people who know them,” another said.

“At my wedding, I had a local high school kid make the cupcakes for our reception. He was just starting his own business (this was over 10 years ago and his business is BOOMING now!). We ordered 200 cupcakes comprised of 4 different custom flavors,” another began.

“My grandmother (who raised me) insisted I invite my mother and two of my uncles to the wedding, all of whom I was estranged from because they’re absolute toxic, disgusting pieces of s–t. At first I refused, but Grandma all but refused to attend if I didn’t, so I did. Not only did these f–kers steal most of our centerpieces from their tables and others, but they managed to load over A HUNDRED of our cupcakes into the backseat of my uncle’s PT cruiser before my brother caught them.”
