Elaine Thompson-Herah announced her return to the track and shared that she began training for the upcoming season. The Jamaican athlete had been struggling with an injury for a long time, which led to her skipping her Paris Olympics appearance with the goal of focusing on her recovery.
The Olympic gold medalist's struggles with injury began in the 2023 season, which led her to finish fifth in the Jamaican national trials and miss the qualification for the World Athletics Championships in the women's 100m. Elaine Thompson-Herah was set to make an appearance in the early 2024 season; however, she opted out of multiple races and competed in her first event at the Prefontaine Classic, where she struggled with her performance and ultimately finished last.
This was followed by her appearance at the New York City Grand Prix, where she clocked 11.48s and limped off the track. Fans were concerned about the Jamaican athlete, and she announced that she would not be competing in the National trials, thereby ending her dream of defending her Olympic titles in the 100m and 200m.
Since then, Elaine Thompson-Herah has been absent from the track and has not made any appearances in the 2025 season. The Olympic gold medalist would often share updates about her life with fans on social media and recently expressed her desire to make her long-standing comeback to the track circuit. Thompson-Herah shared that she had resumed her training and hopes to make a return to the track in the 2026 season. She shared a strong message and wrote:
"Lost files of a big chop 💇🏾♀️ and back in training 🙏🏾……. If God puts a Goliath in front of you, He must believe there’s a David inside of you."She shared highlights of her time on the track along with a message about faith.
