Allen Lazard has been released by the New York Jets upon his request, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz on Tuesday. The veteran wide receiver will hit free agency once he clears waivers.

Lazard spent three seasons in New York after signing a four-year, $44 million contract in 2023. He initially joined the Jets as part of a broader effort tied to then-quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ arrival from Green Bay. Lazard and Rodgers played together for five years with the Packers.

Fans reacted to the news, joking that Lazard might be on his way to join the four-time NFL MVP and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"The most obvious steeler of all time," one fan wrote. "Oh Lord Steelers about to do it aren’t they," another fan wrote. "welp you know where he’s going," a fan commented. "Off to Pittsburgh to join his man AR!" one fan said. "Aaron Rodgers running into Tomlin's office," a fan tweeted.

Lazard’s best years came with Rodgers under center, and his production significantly dipped without consistent quarterback play. His next destination will be watched closely in the coming days.

Allen Lazard’s performance with the Jets

Allen Lazard’s time with the New York Jets saw inconsistent production and limited impact. He managed just 23 receptions for 311 yards and one touchdown in his first season.

Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers’ stint in New York was disappointing. He suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his first game, ending his 2023 season after just four snaps. Rodgers returned in 2024 and threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdown and 11 interceptions, but the Jets finished 5-12 and missed the playoffs.

Lazard also improved his numbers in 2024, thanks to his chemistry with the quarterback. He recorded 37 catches for 530 yards and six touchdowns, primarily as the team’s No. 3 receiving option behind Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams. However, his performance was overshadowed by drops and an inconsistent target share.

Lazard had a sharp decline this season, barely making any contributions to the Jes' offense. Lazard finished with 70 receptions for 911 yards and eight touchdowns across 36 games with the franchise.
