As the Philadelphia Eagles gear up to play in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers, there is one massive issue the team is dealing with right now: Jalen Hurts' blood clot issue leading to his placement on injured reserve.
With Hurts now slated to miss the next four games at minimum, he'll be out through the Eagles' Week 10 bye. Hurts won't come back until late November, if he's back at all this season.
Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice, following the Hurts' IR news, believes the Eagles punting on the 2026 season is a "no-brainer" decision. While it might seem odd for a team that came into the year to punt after just five weeks, that's not an outrageous statement from Kempski at all.
Eagles urged to make 'no-brainer' decision to punt 2026 season after Hurts IR news
Kempski wrote an article following Week 5's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars that the "Eagles should punt on the 2026 season," and "trade still-valuable players for future assets."
Following Hurts' going onto injured reserve with this scary blood clot issue, Kempski followed up with the following message: "This is now a no-brainer course of action."
Hearing that the Eagles being trade deadline sellers would be a "no-brainer" decision before the season would've stunned Eagles fans. But considering the issues on this year's team, not only with Hurts, a sell-off by the November 10 trade deadline makes sense.
Looking around this roster, there are plenty of players who would fetch quite the price on the open market. Saquon Barkley, Dallas Goedert, Landon Dickerson, Zack Baun, Riq Woolen, Nolan Smith Jr., and Moro Ojomo are a few who could be traded this year.

Unless Tanner McKee steps in for the Eagles and starts playing at a very high level over the next couple of weeks and gives the Eagles a ton of confidence, Howie Roseman should have no qualms over selling by the trade deadline this year.
It's an unfortunate turn of events, but as seen with the Cam Jurgens trade, it might be time to shake up this roster in hopes of retooling. It's not like they can't be competitive in 2027 or 2028, as there's still a lot of talent on this roster.
But when it comes to their 2026 playoff chances, with Hurts now set to miss at least a month, it makes perfect sense for Philadelphia to be major sellers by the trade deadline.
Kempski believes it is a "no-brainer" course of action for the Eagles, but will Roseman see it the same way? It's going to be an interesting next few weeks, as a lot could change about the future of the Eagles going forward.
