Before even being drafted first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, people already had spectacular expectations for Victor Wembanyama. They got even bigger when he joined a proven organization like the San Antonio Spurs.

Now that he is set to play his fourth NBA season, Wembanyama has already had impressive success. This includes a trip to the NBA Finals, two All-Star nods, and a Defensive Player of the Year award. Now, he will have to live up to even bigger expectations.

Victor Wembanyama is Draymond Green's favorite for multiple awards

As one of the league's most successful veterans, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has seen his fair share of superb players. He has some accolades for himself as well, including four All-Star nods, two All-NBA team selections, and a Defensive Player of the Year win.

With what he has seen from Wembanyama, it seems that he believes that the Frenchman is the favorite for both the Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year awards. Those are some high expectations, but it seems that most of the NBA community would agree with that sentiment.

The last time a player has won both awards in the same season was back in the 2019-20 season when Giannis Antetokounmpo did it for the Milwaukee Bucks. Now, Wemby is expected to do the same as one of the favorites for both awards.

"I'mma go out on a limb that it's Wemby. With his impact defensively and offensively, the only thing that can stop him from MVP this year is injury... 1000% I think he takes home both of them this year," Green said on his podcast episode with WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes.

Now, Wembanyama has to meet these expectations ahead of the 2026-27 season. It will be challenging to do so, but it seems that the Spurs' superstar is ready to live up to the hype and prove that he deserves to get the accolades.
