The Philadelphia Eagles' running back situation heading into their Week 6 clash vs. the Carolina Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field is far from ideal.
With Saquon Barkley dealing with a hamstring injury, Will Shipley sidelined with a foot injury, and Tank Bigsby on IR with a core muscle injury, the Eagles have few options at the position.
Although a trade is unlikely to happen this week, CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani believes acquiring a former Dallas Cowboys fan favorite running back before the Nov. 10 deadline would be in the franchise’s best interest.
“The top two running backs for the Tennessee Titans are on expiring deals, and one could be moved if the right team comes calling,” Dajani wrote last Thursday.
“Tony Pollard is averaging 55.3 rushing yards per game this season with one touchdown, but he and Derrick Henry are actually the only players to have reached 1,000 yards rushing in each of the last four seasons. He recorded a career-high 1,082 rushing yards in 2025. Potential landing spot: Green Bay Packers or Philadelphia Eagles.”
Pollard isn’t on Barkley’s level overall, but it would be asinine to ignore the breakaway/home run speed and contact balance that let him routinely reach the second level of defenses.
Pollard, who faced the Eagles 10 times from 2019-23 as a Cowboy, has recorded 68 carries for 273 yards and one touchdown in five contests and is on a mission to rush for 1,000+ rushing yards for the fifth straight season.
Even if Barkley returns to Philadelphia’s lineup swiftly, having Pollard as a steady backup option wouldn’t be the worst-case scenario for the two-time Super Bowl Champions. Ultimately, it’ll be up to the Eagles to decide whether pursuing the Memphis product is worthwhile.
