Eagles' Jalen Hurts, other players given choice on White House visit

Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and the rest of the Philadelphia Eagles will have a choice.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie confirmed earlier this week that the team's visit to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl victory won't be mandatory.

“Our culture is that these are optional things,” Lurie told reporters. “If you want to enjoy this, come along and we’ll have a great time and if you don’t, it is totally an optional thing.”

Lurie and head coach Nick Sirianni have both spoken positively about the opportunity.

“This is really just an invitation from the White House,” Lurie said. “That’s all this is, and we’re not politicizing it in any way. Not for us.”

The Eagles didn't go after winning in 2018 after President Donald Trump uninvited them amid various conflicts.

This time around, Philadelphia will make the trip, and its roster can choose whether it wants to be there.
