Eagles injury updates vs. Packers: Latest on defenders Darius Slay Jr., Nakobe Dean

The Philadelphia Eagles jumped out to an early 10-0 lead over the Green Bay Packers in Sunday’s wild-card playoff game at the Linc.

They could be down two critical players on defense in the second half, though, after a pair of season-long starters exited the game with injuries.

Veteran Darius Slay Jr., a starting boundary corner for the Eagles opposite star rookie Quinyon Mitchell, was seen jogging to the locker room with trainers while favoring his left arm as the Packers made their first foray into the red zone. The team announced that Slay is questionable to return with an elbow injury.

Moments after the broadcast showed Slay heading into the tunnel, linebacker Nakobe Dean stepped up to make a tackle and immediately knew he was hurt. He quickly removed his helmet and walked gingerly off the field with help from a pair of trainers. The team ruled Dean out prior to halftime.

Isaiah Rodgers entered the game for Slay — and he was immediately tested by Packers quarterback Jordan Love with a throw into the end zone, which Rodgers denied. Dean, who missed the final two weeks of the regular season with an abdomen injury, has been replaced by Oren Burks, who made a huge hit on the game’s opening kickoff to force a fumble that led to Philly’s lone touchdown of the half.

Both Slay and Dean were among the team’s leaders in total defensive snaps this season, with Dean fourth and Slay seventh.
