The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t get the news they were hoping for on Wednesday.
It’s no secret that the NFC East franchise is searching for a valuable and experienced edge rusher, and there are a few viable options available.
The Arizona Cardinals' 12-sack star, Josh Sweat, was believed to be one of them, as a potential reunion trade has begun to surface. Unfortunately for the Eagles, though, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shut down the notion that Arizona would cut ties with the former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, which is crushing news for Philadelphia.
“This has gained some steam on social media, so just to provide some clarity: Arizona Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat is not being traded,” Rapoport wrote on X/Twitter Wednesday. “Not to the(Green Bay) Packers or anywhere. Carry on.”
Rapoport’s report regarding Sweat’s future with the Cardinals is as straightforward as it gets. Unhappy in Arizona or not, it’s clear that the Cardinals aren’t ready to end their partnership with the 28-year-old after only one season.
After the 2024-25 season, the Eagles opted not to sign Sweat to a new deal, making the ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ saying ring true for the Cardinals.
Despite Sweat’s impressive play, Arizona wasn’t competitive last year, finishing with an abysmal 3-14 record (they lost their last eight regular-season contests). Luckily for the Cardinals, it seems as though Sweat will continue to be a part of their rebuild.
