Eagles' 5-foot-6 fan favorite RB retires from NFL after 6 seasons with Philly

A beloved Philadelphia Eagles running back is hanging up his cleats for good.

Boston Scott is retiring from the NFL, he announced on his own social media accounts on Wednesday.

Scott was a sixth-round draft pick by the New Orleans Saints, but every regular season NFL game he played was for the Eagles from 2018 through 2023.

He finished his career with 302 runs for 1,295 yards and 16 touchdowns while catching 71 passes for 566 yards and an additional TD.

This is the message he wrote on social media to announce his retirement:

I thought it would be after a Super Bowl win where I rode off into the sunset.

I thought it would be an injury where the cons outweighed the pros on whether or not to continue.

I thought it would be my body starting to wear and slow down and it was obvious I lost a step.

I thought it would be a situation that presented itself that would be something I could control.

But I remembered that God is the one who placed me there. Not me. We don’t get to determine how He wants to refine us, we have to walk by Faith and not by sight.

I’m thankful for everything the game has given me and my family. I’m thankful for the coaches, teammates, and staff throughout my career that believed in me even when it wasn’t popular. Looking back at my career I’m just in awe of what God was able to accomplish, from a Walk-on who almost had to drop out of college to many years at the highest level, a lot of it doesn’t make sense and I believe that’s the point.

As a competitor it hurts because it felt like I never got a full season of opportunity to fully showcase everything I’m capable of. The NFL is an ever changing landscape and if you’re on the wrong side of it, it can be damning. I didn’t reach the accolades or accomplishments that I felt would’ve cemented my legacy really at any level of football. But as I’ve taken time to reflect there’s no better life lesson. You can give everything. Leave no stone unturned, and still not reach your goals.

Will you still work your hardest? Can you attack the next day? Is it really about the end product?

The work never stopped.

In 23’ I struggled immensely. 24’ I broke through and could finally see clearly what God wanted to teach me. It’s bigger than any accolade or accomplishment I could ever receive.

To pay it forward. What would those experiences, accolades and accomplishments be if you didn't share the wisdom you gained with those that come after you?

There is so much I'm proud of. I don't feel sorry for myself in the slightest. There is anger, bitterness, but also joy, and happiness... plenty of things to feel. But even if you work your hardest to accomplish something and fall short, why can't the next that you invest in do great things? There's joy in that too.

Faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. It can topple the things in your life that look like giants.

Forever grateful God used me to personify that.

That Bible verse referenced by Scott says this: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Scott is 30 years old. He spent 2024 on the Rams and then Steelers but never got a chance to play.

He didn't get a contract at all in 2025, and now he's moving into the next chapter of his life.

He made the most of an NFL career as a 5-foot-6 RB. He's got to be commended for that.
