It’s a longstanding tradition for Duke and North Carolina to have their sights set on the same high-profile prospects on the recruiting trail.
The two blue bloods have mastered the art of enticing high school standouts looking to join well-respected and storied Power 4/mid-major programs.
The Blue Devils and Tar Heels have reportedly done it again, as they both appear to be in the mix for Beckham Black, the No. 1-rated point guard in the Class of 2027 and brother of Orlando Magic guard Anthony Black, who averaged 15.0 points per game this season.
While UNC was already in the mix for Beckham, Duke joined the mix on Monday.
“Blessed to receive a offer from Duke University,” Beckham stated on X/Twitter.
The Blue Devils and Tar Heels will certainly have their work cut out for them, as Beckham currently holds 22 offers ahead of his senior season at Southeastern Prep.
Per 247Sports, those offers include Arkansas, Kentucky, Texas, USC, Georgetown, Auburn, California, Cincinnati, Duke, Miami, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Virginia, SMU, Creighton, Villanova, and Florida A&M.
Even if Black removes Florida A&M from his list of potential landing spots, there will still be 19 other programs set to compete with and Jon Scheyer and Michael Malone's respective clubs to land the highly sought-after 6-foot-3 lead guard.
Needless to say, there’s no telling where Black will end up before the start of the 2027-28 college basketball season.
