Duke's Jon Scheyer reacts to tough UConn loss: 'I don't have the words for you'

The NCAA Tournament loss for the Duke Blue Devils hit hard for a team expected to be in the Final Four. While UConn played their hand perfectly and pulled out a 74-73 win to stay alive and advance, Jon Scheyer's postgame comments said everything about the tone inside the locker room.

This was an expected blow and one to sting for days to come. However, Duke will find a silver lining from this moment and come back stronger. When Huskies guard Braylon Mullins took his 3-pointer and left less than a second on the clock, there was nothing to compare the moment to from the past. That's probably why Scheyer had a hard time explaining his emotions.

"I don't have the words for you, Scheyer told CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson. All I know is these guys don't deserve that ending. They've been incredible this year and don't deserve the ending, and I don't have the words for you."

Scheyer watched as the sequence went from trying to close out the game to scrambling to defend the perimeter. He's never been in his position as a player and now a coach.

"Well, I've never been in a locker room like that before with that kind of game," Scheyer added about what he said to his team. "These guys literally have done stuff that haven't been done before. And you know, you're literally an inch away from the promised land and we got to process this together. And just like we've done all year and not gonna stop that now.

"Bottom line, it's hard to find meaning in it. Not gonna find meaning in it right now. Gonna be there for them and support them. Because literally, they've taken us through what they've done this season has been incredible."

For now, Duke will head home to regather what's next in Durham. Cam Boozer will likely be NBA bound, leaving a massive hole that needs to be filled. We'll see how this plays out over the coming months.
