Duke battling Michigan for 6-foot-9 transferring conference defensive player of year

The Duke Blue Devils are in the running for maybe the best player available in the transfer portal.

They'll be competing, in part, with the national champion Michigan Wolverines.

There are four teams total thought to be in on Flory Bidunga, the center from Kansas. According to insider Jeff Goodman, Duke and Michigan are joined in their positioning by St. John's and Louisville.

That's certainly a quality list for Bidunga to choose from. But only one of those teams can be the fortunate one who ends up with the big lefty.

Kansas landed Bidunga as a top-25 recruit in the Class of 2024, and he's spent two seasons with the Jayhawks.

In 2024-25, Bidunga played well in the limited minutes he had.

This past season, he was a star. He put up 13.3 point and 9.0 rebounds per game.

Bidunga also blocked 2.6 shots per contest to earn Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors.

He also was quite efficient on his interior shot diet, leading the conference in field goal percentage at 64.0%.

For Duke, it'd be a potential center replacement for Patrick Ngongba. For Michigan, Bidunga would slot in for Aday Mara.

Both teams could use that stout presence inside. It'll be a big impact near the top of college hoops rankings if either the Blue Devils or Wolverines denies the other from getting Bidunga.
