India captain Suryakumar Yadav continued his lean patch with the bat in the fifth and final T20I against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Friday, December 19. The right-handed batter departed for just five runs off seven balls, caught out by David Miller at mid-off by Corbin Bosch.

The right-handed batter went for a big shot, but the bat hit the upper portion of the willow. As a result, the 35-year-old finished 2025 with 218 runs in 19 innings without a single half-century. His last half-century came 22 innings ago when he smashed 75 against Bangladesh in October 2024.

Fans on X looked blasted Suryakumar for his consecutive failures ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. One user wrote:

"Now the time has come to replace Suryakumar Yadav with a better player to captain Team India in T20I. Suryakumar has got many chances and despite playing many innings, he has failed to play a good innings."

Suryakumar will now have to make amends in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand next month. It will be India's last bilateral series before the T20 World Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav departed cheaply, but other Indian batters looked in complete control against South Africa in the fifth T20I. Openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma slammed 37 (22) and 34 (21), respectively. The duo put on a 63-run stand for the opening wicket.

At the time of writing, the Men in Blue were 195/3 after 16.5 overs, with Tilak Varma (60 off 35) and Hardik Pandya (54 off 16) at the crease. Corbin Nosch has been the leading wicket-taker with two scalps.

Notably, India are 2-1 ahead in the five-match series. Notably, the fourth T20I was abandoned due to fog.
