Sacramento Kings head coach Doug Christie had a message for “haters” amid his team’s slow start to the 2025-26 NBA season.
"When I see the hate, the haters, the fakers -- all you guys, you keep that energy," Christie said. "That's good. You keep that. And you know who you are because while you're doing that, we're gonna be working. And while you're doing that, we're gonna be growing. And while you do that, eventually, we're gonna be coming -- the Kings Show. Sac proud, know that."
Christie is in the midst of his first full season as the head coach in Sacramento, and he’s quickly learning that the job won’t be easy. The Kings have won just three of their first 11 games this season, and they’ve quickly dropped to near the bottom of the standings in a very competitive Western Conference. Defense, in particular, has been an issue.
The Kings have the fourth-worse defensive rating in the entire league. Only the Washington Wizards (129.2) and Brooklyn Nets (124.9) have allowed more points per game than Sacramento (123.7). Obviously that’s not a recipe for success.
Despite these struggles, Christie is confident that the Kings can turn things around, and he vowed to put in the work in order to do so. He also indicating that change, of some sort, could be coming.
"Change is hard. It's hard. But understand -- and we understand -- that we're not there yet,” Christie said. “But we're about to work at it like crazy. We will totally get there. And it will be bumpy. It will because change is like that. But buckle up. For the real ones, buckle up."
Turning things around won’t be easy for the Kings, as they have a tough stretch of schedule coming up. Five of Sacramento’s next seven games come against Western Conference contenders such as the Spurs, Timberwolves, Thunder and Nuggets.
