Gianluigi Donnarumma was awarded the Yashin trophy for best goalkeeper of the season in the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony held at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on September 22.

Donnarumma recorded a total of 47 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain in the 2024-25 campaign, during which he maintained 17 clean sheets and was key in the French club's success of claiming the treble.

The Italian shot-stopper parted ways with PSG following a fallout that took place after he was left out of the squad for the 2025 UEFA Super Cup following the arrival of new goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

Donnarumma arrived at Parc des Princes from AC Milan in 2021, and during his four-year tenure there, the 26-year-old made 161 appearances and contributed to 56 clean sheets while lifting 10 trophies, including four Ligue 1 titles and one UEFA Champions League title, with the French club.

Following his farewell at PSG, Donnarumma signed a five-year contract with Manchester City, reportedly worth £26m in the concluding moments of the summer transfer window deadline. He has recently revealed why he wanted to stay at PSG.

"Yes, when you go through so many positive things, when you spend a lot of time with great friends, it is difficult. But the truth is that I have found an extraordinary club (Manchester City), with extraordinary players, and they welcome me like a big family, and that is important for me," as per Sportstar.

"Change is difficult, but at the base, I had found (at PSG) really extraordinary supporters, extraordinary players, the staff, the coach, the sporting director, the president. That is why I had wanted to stay."

While his journey at PSG appears to be over for the time being, Donnarumma's time at Etihad has kicked off well, with him starting in all three of his appearances for Man City and ensuring two clean sheets so far.

Donnarumma and Man City are now headed to face EFL League One club Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup on September 24.
