Dominik Mysterio was confronted by his father, Rey Mysterio, this past Monday on WWE RAW. Some people might have missed it, but "Dirty" Dominik paid a subtle, heartbreaking tribute to his Hall of Famer.
After successfully defending the Intercontinental Championship in a triple threat match against Penta and Rusev at Saturday Night's Main Event, Dominik bragged about it on RAW. He was then confronted by a returning Rey, who has been cleared to return from a torn groin.
During their intense promo, Dominik Mysterio claimed that he was the greatest luchador in history. Rey countered by asking if he really thought he was better than guys like El Santo, Blue Demon and Eddie Guerrero.
"I am better than them. El Santo? Better than him. Blue Demon? Better than him. Any Guerrero you mentioned? I am better than them. But there’s one luchador that I am better than and you didn't mention him, you," Dominik said.Despite what has happened between them over the past two years, Dominik Mysterio appeared to still respect Rey as a pro wrestler. While Mysterio didn't put himself alongside El Santo, Blue Demon and Eddie Guerrero, Dominik made sure he was a part of it on live television.
"Dirty" Dom could have stopped at saying he was better than the three legends, but he went out of his way to mention his "deadbeat" father as well.
Possible plans for Dominik Mysterio's feud with Rey Mysterio
After what happened on RAW, it seems like WWE is moving forward to a feud between Dominik Mysterio and Rey Mysterio. With Survivor Series: WarGames right around the corner and in the Mysterio's hometown of San Diego, California, it could be the plan moving forward.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, WWE initially wanted Rey Mysterio to wrestle at the AAA Guerra de Titanes event on December 20 in Guadalajara, Mexico. It's another possible venue for a Dom vs. Rey match, which could help sell out the 20,000-seater arena there.
Meltzer also pointed out the possibility of the match happening at Survivor Series: WarGames despite Dom being rumored as John Cena's opponent at the PLE.
Bryan Alvarez even suggested a match between the father and son happening before Survivor Series that leads to Cena making the save to set up his match against "Dirty" Dom.
