Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa to face Browns' Dillon Gabriel in first lefty QB duel in 19 years

The Miami Dolphins are set to face the Cleveland Browns in Week 7 of the NFL season. Their matchup is between two 1-5 teams, but that's not the only similarity between the two organizations.

With Tua Tagovailoa leading the charge for Miami and Dillon Gabriel for Cleveland, this is a very rare quarterback duel between left-handed throwing quarterbacks.

As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes, this matchup between left-handed quarterbacks will be the first in 19 years, as Tagovailoa and Gabriel make some fun NFL history in Week 7.

Dolphins-Browns features a rare battle of lefty QBs between Tua Tagovailoa and Dillon Gabriel

"For the first time in 19 years, a pair of left-handed quarterbacks will square off in an NFL game when Tua Tagovailoa and Dillon Gabriel meet for the first time," Florio writes.

19 years ago, the last time two left-handed quarterbacks faced off in the NFL was Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons against Chris Simms of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 17th in 2006. The matchup resulted in a Falcons 14-3 win, and was the last time two left-handed quarterbacks faced one another in the NFL.

That is, until Week 7. Tagovailoa and the Dolphins are heading up north to face the Browns and Gabriel. It'll be the first lefty quarterback duel in nearly 20 years, as both teams look to get their second win of the season.

Ironically enough, Tagovailoa will once again suit up for a lefty quarterback duel just one week later, as the Falcons with Michael Penix face the Dolphins in Atlanta.

After that matchup in Week 8, the Dolphins, Browns, and Falcons don't play each other again. Week 8's Dolphins-Falcons matchup will be the final lefty quarterback duel of the season, and it could be a while until another such matchup occurs.

But, in the meantime, the Dolphins and Browns are set to face one another to get to 2-5, and their left-handed quarterbacks will be a huge reason if they do so.

Tua Tagovailoa and Dillon Gabriel are two of the three left-handed quarterbacks in the NFL, and in Week 7, they will face each other's teams in the first battle of lefty quarterbacks since 2006 between Michael Vick and Chris Simms.
