Dolphins trade pitch ships $84 million veteran to NFC East team needing cornerback help

The Miami Dolphins are nearing the end of their offseason, but finding a trade partner for Jalen Ramsey has proven to be difficult. It’s been known since the start of the offseason that Ramsey was likely to be moved, due to his strained relationship with the organization and his hefty contract. However, the Dolphins have shown no willingness to absorb any of that financial burden.

“The Dolphins appear unwilling to take on any of Jalen Ramsey’s guaranteed money to facilitate a trade. Teams are very interested in trading for Ramsey, but don’t want to take on his full contract. This is the current hold up,” Jeremy Fowler reported.

For Ramsey, it appears that his time in Miami was marked by tension, particularly with defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.

“I talked with their defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver about the situation and his quote kind of [explains] why the Dolphins and Ramsey are here. He said Ramsey has been a great player for us, but relationships are hard and he has chosen to move on,” Cameron Wolfe said.

Ramsey’s name continues to circulate as a top target for teams in need of an experienced cornerback. One team to watch closely is the Dallas Cowboys.

“NFC East could be one to watch. The Dallas Cowboys, they made three trades this offseason for players on rookie deals, could they make a fourth trade for a veteran who's on a bigger contract? They need cornerback help. When I talked to someone in Dallas, they said 'It's possible we're not done. It's slow right now, but we could always be looking to add,’” Fowler said.

If a deal with Dallas materializes, one name to watch is Daron Bland. He could be included in a trade to Miami as a promising young cornerback, offering the Dolphins both talent and a more manageable contract. Meanwhile, Ramsey would head to a win-now team and join a strong cornerback room alongside veteran Trevon Diggs.
