Dolphins trade pitch sends $84 million 7-time Pro Bowler to Commanders for $5.5 million CB

The Miami Dolphins are arguably in the most dreaded position of any NFL team right now. The organization is facing a significant predicament, with the biggest storyline of the offseason being their struggle to clear cap space. One possible solution is to trade away some of their highest-paid players to create financial flexibility—Tyreek Hill could be among them.

“The Dolphins must consider all of their options, as the 31-year-old has a $27.7 million cap hit this season and a staggering $51.9 million in 2026. They aren't keeping him at that number next year. They'll either renegotiate his contract or ship him elsewhere,” Brent Sobleski wrote.

Another name that is certainly on the trading block is veteran cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Initially, the Dolphins complicated trade talks by refusing to take on any of his guaranteed money.

“The Dolphins appear unwilling to take on any of Jalen Ramsey’s guaranteed money to facilitate a trade. Teams are very interested in trading for Ramsey, but don’t want to take on his full contract. This is the current hold up,” Jeremy Fowler reported.

According to Miami’s defensive coordinator, Ramsey’s potential departure also stems from relationships. While his next destination remains uncertain, one team that could be a viable suitor is the Washington Commanders. They could benefit from a seasoned corner like Ramsey—assuming they can absorb his contract.

“Washington is a potential destination that doesn’t offer an attractive player in the secondary to send back, at least not in comparison to the other two reported teams in the running. Washington could offer veteran cornerback Jonathan Jones, who is 32-years old in September and owed $5.5 million this season,” Kyle Crabbs wrote.

Ramsey is still exploring his options, and a trade is expected to occur sometime this summer. If it does, Miami would gain significant cap relief, while Washington would acquire a proven defensive back.
