Dolphins free agent pitch lands $12 million CB from bitter rival as Jalen Ramsey replacement

The Miami Dolphins aren’t exactly hiding their interest in moving on from Jalen Ramsey.

Ramsey is set to carry a $16.6 million cap hit in 2025 and is owed $24.1 million. If Miami finds a trade partner, the hope would be that the acquiring team takes on a significant portion of that contract.

Of course, if a deal does happen, the Dolphins would be left with an even thinner secondary — a concern for a team with playoff ambitions.

To help address that potential void, Pro Football Focus' Mason Cameron believes Miami could look toward free agency, specifically at Buffalo Bills cornerback Rasul Douglas.

“Rumors of a Jalen Ramsey trade this summer create a dire need for starting-caliber cornerbacks in Miami,” Cameron wrote. “While the sample is small, the Dolphins posted just a 53.6 PFF coverage grade without Ramsey on the field in 2024.

“Rasul Douglas may be a name to target in Miami’s Cover 2-heavy scheme (19.7%, third in NFL), a coverage he excelled in last season, having earned a 74.4 PFF coverage grade.”

Still, the numbers don’t exactly scream excitement for Dolphins fans. In 15 games last season, Douglas failed to record an interception and allowed a 72.9% completion rate and a 122.0 passer rating, along with five passes defended.

At the very least, Douglas would provide a veteran presence to a young group. He’s played eight seasons in the NFL and has experience in multiple defensive systems.

Douglas currently holds a market value of $11.9 million, per Spotrac. The Dolphins, meanwhile, rank 24th in the league in available cap space, sitting at $17.6 million.
