Dolphins expected to compete with Cardinals for Malik Willis thanks to Matt LeFleur link

The Miami Dolphins have some big plans this offseason. Tyreek Hill's future in Miami is in question, and the future of Tua Tagovailoa is also very much up in the air.

While the Dolphins won't have an easy time moving on from Tagovailoa, the Dolphins will be looking to move forward with a new quarterback for the 2026 season and beyond.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Dolphins are, as expected, linked to Green Bay Packers QB Malik Willis. But, they're expected to compete with the Arizona Cardinals, who also have a link to Willis through Matt LaFleur, his former head coach.

Dolphins to compete with Cardinals for Malik Willis

"Two teams I'll be watching to pursue Malik Willis, if they can find someone to take their current quarterbacks, are the Cardinals and Dolphins," Fowler writes.

These two teams, being the ones strongly linked to Willis already this offseason is hardly a surprise. Each team has a very strong link to Willis.

For the Dolphins, new head coach Jeff Hafley and new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan were both formerly with the Packers last year. Hafley was the DC, while Sullivan was a high-ranking executive in the front office.

However, the Cardinals also have a strong link. The Packers head coach, Matt LaFleur, saw his brother, Mike LaFleur, get hired by the Cardinals to be their new head coach.

While he's not from the Packers organization, the familiarity with the LaFleur family would be a nice plus for Willis in going to the Cardinals.

Ironically, both the Cardinals and Dolphins, the teams with the strongest link to Willis this offseason, both have major quarterback issues to address.

Tagovailoa in Miami and Kyler Murray in Arizona are the two biggest QB conundrums this offseason across the NFL. Signing Willis would likely only come after these teams make a decision on Murray or Tagovailoa.

So, not only is there going to be a competition for Willis between the Cardinals and Tagovailoa, but the two teams will be racing to complete their QB roster moves this offseason.
