The Miami Dolphins are exploring several trade possibilities this offseason, either due to strained relationships or an effort to offload expensive contracts. Some veterans may not remain on the roster through the trade deadline—and one name almost certain to be gone before then is veteran cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
While Miami had hoped to move him earlier in the offseason, a deal is now expected to happen soon. ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes a trade will be completed before training camp.
“Jalen Ramsey will get traded. It'll be, I would expect before the start of training camp. We'll see how it shakes out, where he goes,” Schefter said.
One of the main holdups is Ramsey’s hefty contract. The $24 million in guaranteed money is reportedly scaring off potential suitors.
“But a lot of these teams are spooked by the money because of the $24 million guaranteed. The Rams are sort of waiting it out. It's really interesting. I do think it'll get done, I just don't know what it's going to look like financially. But I know he's supposed to get traded in somewhat short order, so I think in the next week or two I could see it coming together,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said.
The Dolphins’ motivation to move on from Ramsey stems from a reportedly fractured relationship with head coach Mike McDaniel. Bleacher Report’s Mitchel Milani suggested the Dolphins work out a deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

In this proposed trade, Ramsey would be sent to the 49ers in exchange for two draft picks. The move would strengthen San Francisco’s already formidable defense and give them a strong shot at winning the NFC West, which is wide open this season.
Ramsey would also bring veteran leadership and escape a deteriorating situation in Miami. The 49ers, with the cap space to absorb his contract, could benefit significantly from the acquisition. If it happens, this deal could be a true game changer.
