Once again, the Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be World Series favorites.
That could make them obvious buyers at this year's trade deadline, though they don't need to make a ton of upgrades to the roster to have a chance.
Despite that, the Dodgers' strong farm system could put them in the mix for one of baseball's best starting pitchers if they choose to pursue the left-hander, who is playing on an expiring contract.
That pitcher would be back-to-back AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal. However, Chris Landers of FanSided wrote Tuesday that the Dodgers could be a "nightmare" landing spot for Skubal.
"On the other hand: Is this really how Skubal wants it to be? Star after star keeps signing with L.A., so clearly the concept of ring-chasing doesn't hold all that much weight among big-league players," Landers wrote.
The only problem with labeling Skubal as a ring chaser is that he has no say in the matter of whether he's traded or not.
"But Skubal would become public enemy No. 1 to every baseball fan outside of Southern California before he even got off the plane, and even if he did help the Dodgers three-peat, how many people would be willing to actually give him credit for being just one more All-Star on a team full of them?" Landers added.

The Detroit Tigers are spiraling, and plenty of teams around the Majors are going to be sending their best offers for Skubal.
Los Angeles may have an advantage when it comes to the prospect capital and pitching that it can offer Detroit.
That doesn't mean it's a guarantee that Skubal will end up there, but it does appear the Dodgers will be heavily involved.
