Dodgers win epic 18-inning classic Game 3 on Freddie Freeman walk-off homer to grab World Series lead

A historic Game 3 it was, with a familiar Dodgers hero.

Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off home run to center field in the bottom of the 18th inning that sent those remaining in Dodgers Stadium into hysterics after a 6-5 win over the Blue Jays in Game 3 of the World Series in a game that poured into Tuesday morning. Los Angeles leads the series 2-1.

It was the second World Series game in history to last more than 14 innings. In 2018, the Dodgers and Red Sox set the record when Los Angeles beat Boston 3-2 on a Max Muncy walk-off home run.

The game lasted 6 hours and 39 minutes.

It capped off a wild Game 3 that saw the Blue Jays rally from a 2-0 deficit in the fourth inning with a four-run swing that included Alejandro Kirk’s three-run homer off to center field.

Andrés Giménez drove in the fourth run in the frame off a sac fly.

A double by Ohtani pulled the Dodgers back within one in the bottom of the fifth and Freddie Freeman tied the score with a single two batters later.

Bo Bichette put the Jays back in front with a single that scored Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the seventh, but Ohtani tied the game back up at five with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning.

The seventh-inning home run was Ohtani’s second home run of the game and he tied a 119-year-old MLB record by becoming the first player since 1906 to have four extra-base hits in a World Series game. Frank Isbell had four doubles for the Chicago White Sox in Game 5 in 1906 against the Chicago Cubs. Ohtani got on base all seven times he came to the plate.

Clayton Kershaw came out of the bullpen in the 12th to get out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam.

Tommy Edmond led off the bottom of the 13th with a double to the right-centerfield gap for the Dodgers. He bunted over to third by pinch-hitter Miguel Rojas. The Dodgers were unable to score as Freddie Freeman flied out with the bases loaded.
